Having an issue with an upgrade - Vitsa is asking to install the latest version of the driver I did 5.5 (5.7 & 6.0 do not recognize the controller) [ Intel 82801ER SATA RAID] This is on a Dell XPS/Gen 2 Windows XP sp_2 (Dell's site drivers only go to version 3.5). You may suggest a clean install - but if Vista barks about the drivers in an upgrade shouldn't it (VISTA) do the same on a clean install?
Any thoughts or workarounds? Thanks

Intel 82801ER SATA RAID
I have the same Intel controller, I did clean install and just used the drivers from the "Floppy Configuration Utility" for version 5.5.0.1035. Do you have the software installed on XP or just the drivers? You just can't continue the install without the update? In any case you can always try a clean install of Vista on the drive if it doesn't take the drivers then it's not going to effect the XP installation.

I tried to install the latest Raid drivers on my install and it would not, giving me a message about the controller wasn't present or something. I will just chock it up to a Beta software. Maybe they want all the drives running in Legacy mode to cut down on conflicts. I do not have the Raid turned on in the Bios because I just use a single SATA drive.

Have a look at your Bios settings. If possible, set your SATA-RAID-Controller to Disabled. Normally Vista now does not ask for drivers.

I have the software installed as well. Hmm from floppy for the drivers at install F6 time ( and to find a floppy & the drivers that fit on the floppy)
Thanks

If you want to try, there are some RAID drivers on the Intel site to download for a floppy install. My chipset is an 82801EB, but I bet they would work. Look at number 18 or so.

And check this:
